Maize senior Jaeden Martin had a successful junior season (30 receptions, 420 yards, 2 TD’s, and an honorable mention all-league honor) in helping the Eagles to advance all the way to the state title game, but he’s not satisfied and has continued to work hard to hone his skills in the offseason.
“I want to improve on my route running and getting in and out of my breaks faster. I’ve gotten with my personal trainer to work on those skills and implemented it in the 7-on- 7’s and team workouts” Martin said, describing part of a rigorous offseason regiment.
As far as team goals go, Martin mentioned the one thing that eluded Maize last season. After an 11-win season in 2021-22, Maize went 12-1 in 22-23, including a thrilling 52-51 win over perennial powerhouse Derby. “As a team we’d like to build off the previous success over the past few years and chase a state title” Martin commented, adding “I’m most excited to just be able to be on the field alongside my teammates.”
After high school, Martin said he’s keeping his options open. “I plan on seeing how this season goes and hopefully continuing my career to whoever gives me an opportunity to play.”
