Q&A with Maize South’s Gracie Morrow – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

By: Jamin Anderson

VYPE got to sit down with Maize South Volleyball’s Gracie Morrow and learn more about who she is.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year are to grow my versatility as an all around  player but also pinpoint my skills as a hitter and lock in on growing how crafty I can be with the ball.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

I would say that the most fun I’ve had in the past year has been this last summer of hanging out with my friends, going to the lake, and jumping into training for my senior season!

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

I would say that my favorite teacher would be my yoga teacher who also happens to be my high school coach. She has been a huge advocate for me not only as a student and player but also as a person and her influence has helped to shape me into the athlete I am now.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory was definitely my junior season winning substate at home. We had an amazing student section and an incredible turnout of fans that came to support us and it is inspiring to see how popular volleyball is becoming as a sport that more and more people are wanting to support.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

I feel that there hasn’t been just a single teammate that has left such an imprint but my teammates as a whole. I have been blessed to have incredible supportive young women as teammates these past few years and many friends that I believe I will have for a lifetime.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team has been the revolving support not only from my teammates but from our incredible coaching staff along with our wonderful fans. These girls and I have built incredible bonds over these four years and I cannot wait to go out with a bang for my senior season with these amazing people by my side.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I could pick anywhere for a summer vacation I would go to Greece. I will admit that Mama Mia inspired me to want to take this trip but I have always thought it would be beautiful. On this trip I would want to take my mom, my sister, and my dad. My mom loves seeing new places and she also is a fan of Mama Mia, as well as my sister. We used to sing the songs and watch the movies together when we were young which I feel helped to inspire the trip.

VYPE: If we gave you $1,000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If I had $1,000 I would spend it on a new camera for my mom. She has taken pictures of me playing for as long as I can remember and in her already very busy schedule she loves when she is able to sit down and learn more about growing her already incredible skill of photography. She has a new camera she has been eyeing and she is one of the most deserving people I know and I would love more than anything to give back to her after all she has done for me.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I am currently not involved in any designated community service project but plan on taking time when I am able to go help out in classrooms at one of our local elementary schools that I interned at this past year.
