Maize’s Alexis Elliott – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

Maize golfer Alexis Elliott had specific goals coming into her senior season. “Going into the season I wanted to work on consistently shooting in the low 80s-70s. I also wanted to place in the top 15 at the state golf tournament,” Elliott said. To accomplish those goals, she said she “mainly focused on playing in tournaments and improving my woods and driver. I knew going into the season that I would need to develop more length if I wanted to shoot lower in tournaments.”

When asked for her evaluation of the season, she responded “I think that our season went really well. We did not finish at state where we necessarily wanted to but I am so proud of how much our team improved this season. We had lots of PRs this year and were able to place well at all of our tournaments. I personally improved a ton this season and shot significantly better than last season.”

Elliott’s success came quickly after picking up the game, as she placed 1st at 4A regionals as a sophomore, despite taking up golf only 6 months earlier. She listed that as one of her proudest accomplishments, as well as breaking her PR in several tournaments as a senior. Elliott is active in many school activities, including StuCo, NHS, FCCLA, HOBY Kansas, and the ICT SOS Student Advisory Board.

She plans to attend the University of Arkansas and major in biology after high school.
