Maize South’s Caden Wait had a stacked number of stats and accolades last year, including first team all-league and all-state. This year, he’s hoping to continue with his and the Mavericks’ successes.
“One of the main goals I have as a Defender this year is for the defense to have less than 10 goals scored on us the whole year,” Wait said. “We have come very far from the beginning of the season so the only thing I think we can work on is just building team chemistry as we get closer to playoffs so we’re prepared for the game.”
The senior has been thankful for all of the victories the team has had, but a recent win was bigger than the rest.
“The most memorable experience this season so far was winning the Maize South Invitational for the last time,” Wait said. “The final of that tournament seemed to me to be when our team chemistry was finally starting to show off and we played really well.”
While he doesn’t play any other sports, soccer consumes Wait year round to prepare him for the next level.
“I’m not in any other sports as of now since I want to focus on soccer,” Wait said. “I also play club soccer. I need to focus on soccer and not risk injury. I’m hoping to go to a junior college around the area and play for two years. After that I’m hoping to transfer to a bigger school once I have that college soccer experience. I’m hoping to go into either culinary or somewhere in the business field.”
