Maize South’s Kyndal Ewertz – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Shelter Insurance, Landon Head

By Hayden Swope

The Maize South girls soccer team had an unforgettable year, going undefeated and being league champions. Kyndal Ewertz, got to play a big role in the Mavericks’ successful season.

“It means a lot to be chosen for this magazine,” Ewertz said. “I’ve worked very hard the last couple of years, including my team and it feels amazing getting picked.”

While still hoping to cross off the most wanted goal on the list, Ewertz got to see all her hard work pay off throughout the regular season.

“Some of my goals this year was to go undefeated, which we successfully did,” Ewertz said. “My biggest goal is to make it to state and to win. We have been working hard all season and the best reward would be winning state and all the hard work paying off. One of my personal goals was to improve on headers. Last year I had just one header goal, and this year I have five so far, which is a huge improvement from last year.”

With 38 goals, including five header goals, 10 assists, and being named the McPherson Tournament MVP, Ewertz knows that this season will be one to remember forever.

“The most memorable moment from this season was going undefeated,” Ewertz said. “Every single team wanted to beat us, and we had some challenging games, but we pulled through and did something that’s never been done before.”

After high school, Ewertz plans to continue playing soccer, as well as continuing her education in science.

“My future plans include attending Arkansas to play soccer and attend school,” Ewertz said. “I plan to major in Biology.”
