A force for the Maize high school football team is the left tackle, Jon Gould. Two years ago, Maize’s football team competed in the state game and Gould and his teammates have set a goal to make it back to the state game again this season. Gould set his own personal goal for this year as well. Since he plays left tackle, his goal is to make sure his quarterback is protected, and no sacks come from the left side.
During the midseason stretch of games, Maize will be playing against Hutch, Derby, and Maize South. All three of these games, Gould is looking forward to playing. These will be the toughest regular season competition Maize will see this season, and they will line up in back to back to back weeks.
Gould and his teammates have been working during the offseason to create a great team chemistry with the entire team and ready to face this season head on. Individually, Gould has been to multiple football camps to perfect his part of the game. After last season of receiving All-League honorable mention, Gould wants to keep the title of being one of the top offensive linemen in the highly competitive league.
Although undecided at this point on where to attend college, Gould does know he would love to continue his football career in college and plans to major in accounting. In addition to being a valuable asset for the football team, Gould is also a pitcher for the baseball team and is on the powerlifting team.
